Beginning on September 1, 1967,
Hattiesburg 66 was founded as a branded Phillips 66 jobber. With
the addition of handling Gulf Products the company changed it’s
name to Big K Oil Company, Inc. Recently with the leasing of its
operation that used “Big K Food Stores” the company has renamed
to KeithCo Petroleum Inc.
In late 1972,
the company expanded from full service gasoline stations and
began to serve convenience stores with gasoline pumps. The
company installed its first pumps in front of a food store with
the hopes that this would allow more competitive pricing. It
also made it easier to meet the financial obligations of the
food store, since they were already surviving financially
without fuel sales.
In
1973 and 1974, “gas shortage” prevented growth. However, in
1975, the company began to expand again through the installation
of gas facilities at convenience stores.

In March 1977, the company began to purchase gas from Gulf Oil
Company. The company continued to place emphasis on gas
facilities at convenience stores. By staying open longer hours
and pricing on a more competitive basis, substantial increases
in volume were made.
1979 through 1981 was a period of fast growth within the company
as it began to remodel and rebuild outdated units. Self-service
gas had become a way of life for many consumers. Full service
stations, as we had known them were a thing of the past.
In 1988, the company was looking for continuous growth and
expansion by adding another product line. In October the company
became a Chevron jobber.
In 2004,
Keithco became a Shell and a Texaco Jobber. This opened
new doorways for us in Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana.
Keithco
currently supplies Shell, Texaco, and Chevron branded
locations in the three states as well as numerous unbranded
locations.
